- From the main menu bar, select .
A Create Section dialog box appears.
- Enter a section name. For more information on naming objects, see Using basic dialog box components.
- Select Other as the section Category and Cohesive as the section Type, and click Continue.
The cohesive section editor appears. - Select a material for the cohesive section. If desired, click to create a material; see Creating or editing a material, for more information.
- Select a Response for defining the constitutive behavior of the cohesive section:
-
Select Traction Separation if the response is defined directly in terms of traction and separation. Use this option to model a negligibly thin layer of adhesive (debonding).
-
Select Continuum to model a strain state involving one direct (opening strain) and two transverse shear components. Use this option to model a finite thickness adhesive layer.
-
Select Gasket to specify that the stress state is uniaxial.
- Specify the Initial thickness of the cohesive section.
-
Toggle on Use analysis default to use the analysis default value for a Traction Separation or Continuum response. No default value is available for the Gasket response.
-
Toggle on Use nodal coordinates to obtain the initial thickness from the nodal coordinates.
-
Toggle on Specify, and enter a value for the initial thickness.
- Enter a value for the section Out-of-plane thickness. If the section will be used with a two-dimensional region, you must specify the section thickness. Abaqus/CAE ignores the thickness information if it is not needed for the region type.
- Click OK to save your changes and to close the cohesive section editor.
