Context:
- Decibel-based scales
You can rescale data along a particular axis using either of two decibel-based scales. Each scale is suited to a particular type of wave data: the 10 dB scale is recommended for displaying data about wave power or intensity; the 20 dB scale is recommended for data about wave amplitude.
When you select a decibel-based axis scale, you can also adjust the decibel reference value. Adjusting this value enables you to rescale your data object according to the environmental conditions for the data in this X–Y data object and for the units in your model. The default value is 1 . You may want to adjust this value to display data at different environments or for waves traveling through a different medium, such as water.
- Locate the Scale options.
Select ; or click , which is located with the X–Y plotting tools in the Visualization module toolbox. Click the Scale tab in the dialog box that appears. - From the X Axis or Y Axis fields, highlight one or more axes.
- Select one of the following axis scale options:
- Linear
The selected axis is displayed in a linear progression.
- Log
The selected axis is displayed in a base 10 logarithmic progression.
- 10 dB
The selected axis is displayed in a 10 dB progression. The dB Reference field becomes available, and you can enter the decibel reference value for the 10 dB–based data along this axis.
- 20 dB
The selected axis is displayed in a 20 dB progression. The dB Reference field becomes available, and you can enter the decibel reference value for the 20 dB–based data along this axis.
- Click Dismiss to close the Axis Options dialog box.
