Defining thermal radiation for cohesive elements

You can use the Edit Material dialog box to define radiative heat transfer between the top and bottom surfaces when the surfaces are separated by a narrow gap. For more information, see Defining a Thermal Interaction for a Cohesive Element.

  1. From the menu in the Edit Material dialog box, select Thermal Gap Radiation.

(For information on displaying the Edit Material dialog box, see Creating or editing a material.)

  2. Enter values for Secondary Surface Emissivity and Main Surface Emissivity.
  3. Enter the following data in the Data table:

    Effective View Factor

    Effective view factor.

    Gap Clearance

    Gap clearance.

Repeat this data line as often as necessary to define the dependence of the view factor on gap clearance.

For detailed information on how to enter data, see Entering tabular data.

  4. Click OK to close the Edit Material dialog box. Alternatively, you can select another material behavior to define from the menus in the Edit Material dialog box (see Browsing and modifying material behaviors, for more information).
