Changing the labels of all nodes and elements

Select Mesh Global Numbering Control from the main menu to change the node and element labels of a native region or of selected native part instances in the assembly. Enter the start labels, and Abaqus/CAE changes the nodes and elements labels while preserving the original order and incrementation. You can change the labels before or after Abaqus/CAE generates the mesh. (For information on renumbering orphan nodes, see Renumbering nodes and Renumbering elements.)

  1. Enter the Mesh module.
  2. From the main menu, select Mesh Global Numbering Control .
  3. If you are working with the assembly, select the native geometry part instances to modify.

You can select independent or dependent part instances to modify. However, any operations applied to dependent part instances are performed at the part level and, therefore, apply to all instances of the part, even if not all instances were selected.

Abaqus/CAE displays the Global Numbering Control dialog box and the start label for the nodes and elements. If you selected a single part instance, the values displayed are the current start label for the nodes and elements of the selected part instance. If you selected multiple part instances that have the same start labels for their nodes and elements, those values are displayed; otherwise, no values are displayed.

  4. From the Global Numbering Control dialog box, enter the start labels for the nodes and elements. Abaqus/CAE Applies the same start labels to each of the part instances you selected.
  5. Click OK to renumber the nodes and elements.

If the mesh exists, Abaqus/CAE renumbers the nodes and elements and preserves the original order and incrementation. If the mesh has not been created, the new start labels are applied when Abaqus/CAE meshes the part or part instances.
