Configuring the Responses

You can use the Responses tab to define the output parameters that you want to use as responses in your design problem.

  1. Double-click the SDI component icon .
    The SDI Component Editor appears.
  2. From the SDI Component Editor, click the Responses tab.
  3. Right-click in the table to access various options for working with responses.

  4. Perform the following actions, which may vary based on your model design:
    1. Determine which parameters you want to use as responses by selecting the corresponding check boxes in the first column. Alternatively, you can click Check to add all the selected parameters as responses. To clear all the parameters, click Uncheck.

      If no parameters are selected, you are prompted to add all parameters as responses.

    2. Specify the goal Target value for all responses that define performance of the system. The SDI process attempts to move the design toward the specified targets.

      Note: You do not need to specify a target if you selected Analyze Design. In addition, for highly correlated responses, a target should be defined for only one response in the correlated set so as not to over-determine the problem.

    3. Select the Target Type of the response goal for all responses with a Target value defined (Target Type is required when a Target value is entered). The Target Type determines how the distance from the target is calculated and how the SDI iterations proceed.

      The following Target Type options are available:

      Target TypeDescription
      Hard (= target)Select this target type if the goal is to keep the response as close as possible to the specified target.
      Soft (<= target)Select this target type if the goal is to get the response value equal to or below the target value. In this case if the response value goes below the target, the response is removed from the distance calculation; the response is not moved back toward the target if it goes below the target.
      Soft (>= target)Select this target type if the goal is to get the response value equal to or above the target value. In this case if the response value goes above the target, the response is removed from the distance calculation; the response is not moved back toward the target if it goes above the target.

    4. Specify a Lower Limit for the response in the corresponding column. Isight uses the lower limit to assess a penalty on the calculation of the distance from the target. For all design points with a response value below the lower limit, the distance is penalized, effectively removing the design point from consideration as a new best design. In addition, the probability of response values greater than the lower limit is calculated and reported after all simulations are complete.
    5. Specify an Upper Limit for the response in the corresponding column. Isight uses the upper limit to assess a penalty on the calculation of the distance from the target. For all design points with a response value above the upper limit, the distance is penalized, effectively removing the design point from consideration as a new best design. In addition, the probability of response values less than the upper limit is calculated and reported after all simulations are complete.

      Note: If both lower and upper limits are specified, Isight reports the total probability between the limits.

    6. Specify the Percentile for the response. If you specify a percentile value (a value between 0 and 1), Isight reports the response value corresponding to that percentile of the resulting response distribution after all simulations are complete.
  5. If desired, click Edit at the bottom of the editor to set response options.

  7. Click OK to save your changes and to close the SDI Component Editor.
