Creating a New Model

You can use the Sim-flow tab in the Design Gateway to create a model. By default, the Design Gateway opens with an empty model that has a Task component as the root component.

To specify that all new models use a different root component or to open the Design Gateway with no model, see Setting Gateway Preferences.

  1. Initiate the model creation by doing one of the following:
    • If you do not have the Design Gateway open, double-click the Isight icon on the desktop to open it.

      Tip: You can also click the Start menu and select Programs > Isight > Design Gateway.

    • If you are already working with a model in the Design Gateway and you want to create a new model, select New (Default) from the File menu.

    Isight displays a new model on the Sim-flow tab with a root (top-level) Task component, unless you have set your preferences otherwise (see Setting Gateway Preferences).

    Isight also assigns the model the name Untitled 1, Untitled 2, etc. and displays the name in the model selector on the left side of the Design Gateway. You must save the model with a more appropriate name before closing Isight. You can specify the model name as described below or at any time as described in Setting Model Properties.

  2. If you want to change the root (top-level) component, do the following:
    1. From the File menu, select New.

      The Root Component Selection dialog box appears, allowing you to choose the root component from a list of components.

    2. Select the component that you want to use as the root component.
    3. In the Model Name text box, enter the name of the model.

      Important: Do not use the following characters in the model name:

      #, ?, &, %, !, \, $, {, }

    4. Click OK to save your changes and to close the Root Component Selection dialog box.
  3. If desired, save the model:
    • If you have already assigned a name to the model and do not want to change it, select Save from the File menu.

    • If you have not assigned a name to the model or if you want to change the name of the model, do the following:

      1. From the File menu, select Save As.
      2. In the File name text box, enter a name (or new name) for the model.
        Important: Do not use the following characters in the model name: #, ?, &, %, !, \, $, {, }

    Isight saves the model.
