Optimization methods used for topology optimization cannot guarantee that a global optimum, that is the best possible solution, is found. In some cases, it is even unclear whether or not at least a local optimum has been found. In many cases, design optimization tools are therefore used as tools to improve the design rather than to optimize it in a strict mathematical sense. Especially when a large number of design variables is required, global methods like genetic algorithms, for example, often cannot be used because of the large computational effort. Although topology optimization cannot ensure that the global optimum is found, it can be very beneficial to the development process. The optimality criteria approach in SIMULIA Tosca Fluid therefore provides optimization by means of improvement. | |||||||
