About the Rib Design Oil Pan Example

This example shows the basic workflow for a sensitivity-based topology optimization with rib design restrictions with an oil pan model.

This page discusses:

About the Model

The considered model is a oil pan for stiffness optimization.

The initial model is encastered at the nodes in the blue region (see image below). An inward pressure load acts of the bottom and side walls of the structure.

The surface elements except for the top part considered frozen during the optimization such that the infill region is the design domain.

Procedure Summary

Model: topo_ribs_oilpan.ext
Design Area: All elements except frozen regions
Design Variable Constraint: Fix regions of frozen elements
Design Variable Constraint: Rib pattern restriction on all elements in the design area
Objective: Minimize compliance
Constraint: None
Iterations: 100
