Defining superelastic hardening modifications

You specify the variation of the transformation stress levels of a superelastic material as a function of the plastic strain. You can specify the data describing the change in transformation stress levels as a function of the plastic strain, or you can use a user subroutine to define this dependency.

  1. Create a material model as described in Defining a superelasticity model.
  2. Define superelastic hardening as described in Defining superelastic hardening.
  3. From the Suboptions menu in the Edit Material dialog box, select Superelastic Hardening Modifications.
    A Suboption Editor appears.
  4. To specify the data describing the change in transformation stress levels as a function of the plastic strain, enter the following data in the Data table:

    Start of Transformation (Loading)

Stress at which the transformation begins during loading in tension, σtLS.

    End of Transformation (Loading)

Stress at which the transformation ends during loading in tension, σtLE.

    Start of Transformation (Unloading)

Stress at which the reverse transformation begins during unloading in tension, σtUS.

    End of Transformation (Unloading)

Stress at which the reverse transformation ends during unloading in tension, σtUE.

    Plastic Strain

    Plastic strain.

You may need to expand the dialog box to see all the columns in the Data table. For detailed information on how to enter data, see Entering tabular data.

  5. Toggle on User to define the dependence of the transformation stress levels on plastic strain in user subroutine USUPERELASHARDMOD (for Abaqus/Standard) or VUSUPERELASHARDMOD (for Abaqus/Explicit), and do the following:
    1. Click the arrows to the right of the Number of properties field to increase or decrease the number of hardening properties you want to specify in the data table.
    2. In the Data table, enter the hardening properties.

You may need to expand the dialog box to see all the columns in the Data table. For detailed information on how to enter data, see Entering tabular data.

  6. Click OK to return to the Edit Material dialog box.
