Creating a mesh part

Select MeshCreate Mesh Part from the main menu bar to create a mesh part with no geometric features from the current meshed part or assembly. You can also create a mesh part from selected part instances that you have meshed. If you have meshed only some regions of the assembly or the selected part instances, Abaqus/CAE creates a mesh part from only those meshed regions; unmeshed regions are not included in the mesh part.

Context:

A mesh part contains no feature information and is defined by a collection of nodes, elements, surfaces, and sets. Sets, surfaces, and section assignments are copied from the source parts or part instances when you create a mesh part, so loads and interactions applied to the original parts are also applied to the mesh part. You can add geometric features to a mesh part, and you can use the mesh editing tools to modify its nodes and elements. For more information, see What can I do with the Edit Mesh toolset?.

  1. From the Object field in the context bar, select a meshed part or select the assembly.
  2. From the main menu bar, select MeshCreate Mesh Part.
  3. If the assembly contains more than one part instance, you must select the part instances that you want to include in the mesh part. In the prompt area, click Done to indicate that you have finished selecting part instances.
  4. In the prompt area, enter the name of the new part. If you selected part instances from the assembly, you can toggle on Replace part instances to replace the assembly instances with an instance of the new mesh part.
