- Display the connector section editor.
-
To create a new connector section, follow the procedure outlined in Creating connector sections.
-
To edit an existing connector section, select from the main menu bar, select the connector section from the list that appears, and click Edit.
- In the Edit Connector Section dialog box, do one of the following:
-
To define a new friction behavior, click Add and select from the menu that appears.
-
To edit an existing friction behavior, select the behavior from the Behavior Options list to display the associated data fields for that option.
- Choose the Friction model. For more information, see What types of friction models are available?.
-
Choose Predefined to use a predefined friction model. Abaqus displays the slip direction along which friction occurs.
-
Choose User-defined to specify the slip direction in which friction forces or moments are applied and to define friction-generating contact force contributions.
- If you are specifying a user-defined friction model, choose the Slip direction.
-
Choose Specify direction to specify the available component of relative motion along which friction forces or moments are applied. You can define multiple friction behaviors to model friction for more than one component, but Abaqus allows only one friction behavior for each component.
-
Choose Compute using force potential to compute the instantaneous slip direction using a force potential. Select the Force Potential tabbed page, and define at least one force potential term. For more information, see Specifying potential terms.
- Choose the Stick stiffness.
-
Choose Use default to have Abaqus compute an appropriate stick stiffness.
-
Choose Specify to enter the stick stiffness associated with frictional behavior in the direction specified by the slip direction.
- Configure the Tangential Behavior. For more information, see Configuring tangential behavior for connector friction.
- If you are specifying a predefined friction model, specify the Predefined Friction Parameters. If you are specifying a user-defined friction model, specify the Contact Force. For more information, see Specifying predefined friction parameters or contact forces.
- Select one of the following:
-
If you want to continue defining behaviors, click , select the desired behavior, and continue the connector section definition. For instructions on defining other behaviors, see Using the connector section editors.
-
If you want to view or edit an existing behavior, select the behavior from the Behavior Options list. For instructions on editing behaviors, see Using the connector section editors.
-
If you want to save your connector section definition and exit the editor, click OK.
