Defining a fluid inflator interaction

A fluid inflator interaction allows you to inflate a fluid cavity to model the flow characteristics of inflators used for airbag systems.

Fluid inflators are activated automatically for Abaqus/Explicit steps. For a detailed discussion, see Inflator Definition.

Before you begin:

You must create a fluid cavity interaction.

  1. From the main menu bar, select InteractionCreate.

Tip: You can also create a fluid inflator interaction using the tool in the Interaction module toolbox.

  2. In the Create Interaction dialog box that appears, do the following:

    • Name the interaction. For more information about naming objects, see Using basic dialog box components.

    • Select Initial for the step in which the interaction will be created.

    • Select the Fluid inflator type of interaction.

  3. Click Continue to close the Create Interaction dialog box.

Abaqus/CAE opens the Edit Interaction dialog box.

  4. Select a Fluid cavity interaction that defines the fluid cavity reference node to identify the cavity.
  5. Select a Fluid inflator property. Click to create the interaction property; see Defining a fluid inflator interaction property for more information.
  6. Select an Inflation time amplitude to define a mapping between the inflation time and the actual time.

Alternatively, you can click to create a new amplitude. (See The Amplitude toolset for more information.)

  7. Select a Mass flow amplitude to modify the mass flow rate.

Alternatively, you can click to create a new amplitude. (See The Amplitude toolset for more information.)

  8. Click OK to create the interaction and to close the editor.

Symbols that represent the fluid inflator interaction that you just created appear in the viewport. For more information, see Understanding symbols that represent interactions, constraints, and connectors.
