Defining Allowed Values

You can define the allowed values either directly on the Parameters tab or using the Defined Allowed Values dialog box.

This task shows you how to:

Define Allowed Values on the Parameters Tab

  1. From the Design Gateway, select a model.
  2. Select the component that contains the parameter that you want to edit.
  3. Click the Parameters tab, and select the parameter that you want to edit.
  4. Define the type of allowed value that you want to define for the parameter:
    OptionDescription
    Continuous Range Enter the desired expression using the symbols “<”, “<=”, “>”, “>=”, separated by “;” (e.g., “5<;<=8”) (defines lower and/or upper bounds).
    Discrete Set Enter the desired values separated by “;”.

Define Allowed Values Using the Defined Allowed Values Dialog Box

  1. From the Design Gateway, select a model.
  2. Select the component that contains the parameter that you want to edit.
  3. Click the Parameters tab, and select the parameter that you want to edit.
  4. Click that appears when you click in the Allowed Values cell.

    In the Type list, select the type of allowed value that you want to define for the parameter:

    • Continuous Range

      1. Enter a numeric value in the left and right boxes.
      2. Using the button, determine whether or not the bound also allows equality.

    • Discrete Set

      1. In the Values list, enter the values that this parameter is allowed to have.
      2. If you are creating a large set of numeric values (e.g., all integers from 1 to 100), you can use the Create Numeric Set area to enter values in the From, To, and By boxes. Click the button to add the large numeric values to the set. The values appear in the Values table.
      3. If desired, click the up and down arrows to move the selected value.
      4. If desired, click the button to add a new empty row at the selected position. You can use the empty row to enter a new value.
      5. If desired, click the button to delete the selected row.

  5. Click OK to save your changes and to close the Defined Allowed Values dialog box.
